Cambodia tourism has increased by 2.6% from the January to March 2016, according to the Department of Statistics and Tourism Information.
According also to the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, the country welcomed 1,342,477 international visitors in the first quarter, compared to 1,307,836 visitors during the same period of last year.
The number of Cambodian outbound travelers reached 328,347 people in the first three months of 2016, an increase of 33.0% compared to last year.
Nowadays, Cambodia custom tour is one of premier choices for who travel to South-East Asia. During March, the country welcomed 427, 923 passengers, an increase of 2.6% compared to last year.
The Vietnamese visitors are the first market in Cambodia tourism with 75,190 people, down 5.4% compared to 79 506 persons during the same month of last year.
The other top five markets are: China (69,417 people; + 10.2%); South Korea (27,839; -25.2%); Thailand (27,770; + 2.3%); and the United States (24,923, + 19.5%).
The data show that 57.2% of foreign travelers (244,559 people) arrived by the airlines. Siem Reap Airport received most peoples: 32.6% (139,699 travelers) followed by Phnom Penh airport: 24, 5% (104 860 persons).
The land entry accounted for 37.7% (161, 397 persons) through the crossings points with Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, while the fluvial way has occupied only 5.1% (21,967 people).
In addition, data showed that 219, 944 travelers have come to Phnom Penh and other destinations, or 43.8%, while the Siem Reap province where are located the temples of Angkor Watwelcomed 41.4 % (207,979 people). Coastal areas occupied 13.4% market with 67,289 people, while ecotourism regions accounted for 1.4% or 6,821 visitors.
By region, Asia-Pacific accounted for 71.6% of Cambodia’s tourism market, a decrease of 1.2%.
Phnom Penh Post quoted the words of the Statistics Department of the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, Kong Sopheareak who said that tourism increases slightly in the first quarter of the year and that Cambodia continue to attract more Asian travelers.
He confirmed a proposal to have the multiple-entry visa for three years for tourists from China, South Korea and Japan.
Cambodia has granted visa exemption for Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia and begins to cooperate with Thailand to offer the two countries visa obtained in embassy of the first country of entry.
The citizens of other countries can obtain a visa on arrival for tourism (USD30 per person) or for business visit (USD35) for a stay of 30 days in maximum.
