The Thai army has built a miniature model of the complex of Preah Vihear temple that has appalled the Government of Cambodia.
Ranger Regiment 23 has reproduced the model of the Preah Vihear temple with scale 1/10 on a plot of 600 square meters facing the original in Thailand side in front of the Cambodian border.
Colonel Thanasak Mitraphanont of the Regiment toldyesterday to Bangkok Post that the model of Preah Vihear was intended to show the Cambodian government that Thailand is willing to jointly develop the original, which was the subject of border tension since decades. This tension has caused a military conflict between 2008 and 2011.
However, the spokesman of Cambodian government Phay Siphan said that this event was like the controversial plan of a private company in India which wanted to build a replica of Angkor Wat in the state of Bihar in India that Cambodia opposes.
“The purpose of this activity is contrary to the principles of civilized nations,” said Siphan.
He didn’t also agree, since long time ago, with the hope of Thailand of a direct input from Thailand to the complex of Preah Vihear temple. “We have already explained several times that a direct gate to the Preah Vihear temple from the Thailand side is not possible,” he shared.
